One of my favorite video shots to do is an in-car shot. You can do a “through the windshield looking at the road ahead” shot, a “looking inside of the car at everyone” shot or a “watching the world go by” shot. If my family and I are taking a trip somewhere and I am going to video it these are fun shots to add.

There’s several ways to mount or hold the camcorder for these shots. The way I like to hold the camcorder is with my tripod. I can set it up between the seats and adjust it so it frames right through the windshield. I can zoom in or out and I can pan around easily if I want to get shots of me, out the side window or anyone in the car.
One word of caution, it’s illegal to use dash mounted cameras in some states. Check your local laws because you don’t want to end up with a ticket instead of a cool video.
